Indian Simulator Trainer At Maritime Academy to Resume

At the third quarter 2025 Citizens and stakeholders’ engagement meeting held at the maritime Academy of Nigeria, Nigeria’s premier training maritime institution, the Acting Rector, MAN, Oron, Dr Kevin Okonna, revealed that an Indian, who has been employed by the academy to lecture cadets at the academy will resume today
Also employed a long with the Indian master Mariner and Simulator training expert, are other marine professional lecturers including Master Mariners with unlimited foreign going certificate of Competency, CoC, one Master Coastal Navigation with Foreign going CoCs, one Chief Engineer ( unlimited), one Chief Mate ( unlimited) and two Deck Officers with unlimited foreign going certificate of competency.
As part of implementing the policy thrust of the federal ministry of marine and blue economy, under the leadership of Adegboyega Oyetola, the acting rector of MAN,Oron, Dr Kevin Okonna, noted that the academy has equally trained 75 of its’ staff up to varying levels of qualifications and certifications up to lead auditors in line with ISO 9001: 2015 Quality Management System and Educational Organization Management System, EOMS as part of the international quality standards certification of the academy. Furthermore, the acting rector noted that the academy’s governing council has developed a five year strategic development plan the first of its type since 1977.
The stakeholders engagement meeting with the theme: “Implementation of the national policy on marine and blue economy for on board training of Nigerian Merchant Navy cadets and the critical needs of maritime Academy of Nigeria” was attended by representative of the Minister, Marine and Blue Economy and other top officials of the ministry. Representative of the Governor of Akwa state, Others are Engr Kehinde Olayinka Akinola, Chairman, Governing Council of Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Barrister Mrs Mfon Usoro, former Director General of NIMASA, Engr Greg Ogbeifun, chairman Starx Maritime,Capt Aloa Tajudeen, Sola Adewumi, Israel Obada, Capt Sunday Umoren, Secretary General of Abuja MOU and one time best graduating cadet of maritime academy of Nigeria,Oron,Capt Ahmed Hambali Yusuf, Nigeria’s first captain to man NLNG ship, a batch 11 cadet of the academy among others.
