UPU Branch Presidents Endorse Ese Gam Owe, Others for Second Tenure
By Ovie Edomi
At a meeting of branch Presidents of UPU, the apex Urhobo socio- cultural association of all Urhobo sons and daughters, the fifth ethnic tribe in Nigeria, the branch Presidents of UPU unanimously endorsed the candidature of Olorogun Barrister Ese Gam Owe and members of his executive for a second tenure. The group of the UPU branch Presidents hinged the choice on the fact that the Ese Gam Owe-led UPU, understands the workings and dynamics of the Urhobo Progress Union and has over the years shown determined effort to address some of the challenges facing the Urhobo people and the 24 kingdoms unlike the new crops of leaders who are not known to have contributed a dime to the building of UPU house at Okere road or the national headquarters at Agbarho.
The UPU branch Presidents argued that anybody who wants to serve Urhoboland in any leadership position should show
ability to commit personal resources to address some challenges facing the Urhobo people. Also the group noted that Urhobo land is looking for serious sons and daughters of Urhobo that are concerned about development of Urhoboland and not those seeking for either self glorification or group interest/gains.
The Co-ordinator of UPU branch Presidents, Olorogun Dr Akpedi who spoke on behalf of the group said that under the Ese Gam Owe administration, branch Presidents of UPU were given a voice and a platform to have a sense of belonging unlike in time past when they were relegated to the background.
The President General of UPU world wide, Olorogun Barrister Ese Gam Owe thanked the group for the confidence reposed on him and other members of the UPU national executive and promised to work for the good of Urhoboland no matter the criticism from low minded individuals who are more concerned about what they will gain than what they will contribute to the growth of Urhoboland.
Also at the meeting held today, Saturday at the UPU house at Okere road, Okere, near Warri, Delta State, were the national secretary of UPU, Barrister David Esiekpe, the leader of Eghweya, Dame Chief Mrs Rose Oghene, Chief Mrs Okumagba, Chief Opuidi, Chief Dr. Felibens Okoro, Chief Barr.
