Maritime Editors Hold Seminar Tomorrow in Lagos

The League of Maritime Editors, LOME, will on Tuesday, September 30, at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos hold a Seminar.

The seminar with the theme Nigeria’s Chairmanship of WCO Council: The Expected Benefits for the Nation’s Economy comes with an award that will be conferred on few maritime chieftains for their contributions to the maritime industry.

In a press statement signed by the President of the League, Mrs Remi Itie and Public Relations Officer, Mr. Francis Ugwoke, the duo noted that Adeniyi was elected on June 28, 2025, as the first Nigerian to hold the prestigious position since the WCO was founded in 1952. Furthermore, they noted that the Editors will use the seminar to x-ray the expected economic gains of the position to Nigeria and indeed the West African sub-region.

The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, who is also the Chairman of the WCO Council is scheduled to be at the event as a Special Guest of Honour, while a former Retired Assistant Comptroller General of Customs, Charles Edike will chair the ceremony. Renowned customs broker, Chief (Dr) Eugene Nweke is expected to give the keynote address as the Guest Speaker.

 

The event is expected to attract industry stakeholders, including chief executives of the agencies in the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, providers and consumers of shipping services amongst others

As part of the programme, other lectures on Trade Facilitation as it affects the industry will be delivered.

The peak of the event according to the duo of Remi Itie and Francis Ugwoke, President and Public Relations Officers of the League respectively, will be the conferrment of awards on some industry stakeholders for their contributions in the sector, notable among the recipients
are the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho and the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Dr. Pius Akutah
