Majemite, Amori, Waive Storm UPU USA, Canada Convention, Drum Support for Oborevwori’s Second Term
The Urhobo Progress Union America and Canada annual convention held in Calgary, Canada may have come and gone but its’ memories linger.
For some Urhobo leaders the event was an opportunity to wine and dine. For others it was a time to promote the Governor of oil rich, Delta state. For the UPU members in America and Canada, organisers of the event, it was yet another opportunity to come out more formidable and promote the fifth ethnic nationality in Nigeria. And they have every reason to celebrate as well as promote the Urhobo historical heritage because one of their own is the current governor of Delta state.
Expectedly, top Delta state government officials were among the prominent Urhobo leaders who graced the Urhobo Progress Union America and Canada annual convention held in Calgary, Canada, they include Senator Ighoyota Amori, Chief Political Adviser to Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, Hon Francis Ejiroghene Waive, Federal House of Representative member, Hon Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, Federal House of Representative member, and Chief John Obukohwo Nani.
In his address at the UPU, Canada convention, Chief Amori, Chief Political Adviser to Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori stressed the need for the Urhobos in Diaspora to join other Urhobos at home to support Oborevwori for a second term tenure come 2027.
Also, Chief Fred Majemite, two time former commissioner and former governorship aspirant emphasised the importance of unity among the Urhobo people and he therefore urged Urhobos both at home and in the diaspora to continue to unite.According to him, “unity remains the strongest pillar of the people’s progress” Majemite who also called on Urhobos to rally behind the second-term bid of Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori noted that the governor’s first term has brought visible development to the Urhobo nation and as such, the Governor’s success story and achievements deserved to be consolidated upon.
The event which was organised by Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU) North America and Canada was part of their
cultural day celebration and fund raising ceremony as well as to promote the Urhobo cultural heritage and ensure strong bond of unity within the Urhobos. The event attracted several prominent Urhobo sons and daughters from across United States of America, Canada and Nigeria including Chief Barr. Fred Majemite, a two time former commissioner in Delta state and former governorship aspirant Alex Imarah,
