That Urhobo Social Club May Not Derail

The Urhobo Social Club Lagos [USCL], until recent times, occupied a place of prominence and honour in Urhoboland. It was specially so respected amongst sons and daughters of the Urhobo Nation. Though there are other clubs of importance in Urhoboland, such as Atamu Social Club, Urhobo Foundation, Eni Club, Club 23 of Urhobo, Urhobo Historical Society, Urhobo Ladies Association, Urhobo Elite Ladies Club and host of others, the USCL has remained highly respected as first among equals for its articulated views for the good of the Urhobo people. But this was until recently when it started entangling itself extraneously in affairs of other Urhobo groups without respect for constitutionality.

Let us recall a few wrong steps [things this writer consider to be blunders] the USCL have taken of recent, which are inimical to the interest of the Urhobo Nation. First, in 2011, during preparation for the general election, there were schemings and intrigues amongst political supremos across all the major political parties of the time. While the Urhobo Progress Union [UPU]; the mother umbrella of the Urhobo people was being tactical on which of the big players to support, knowing fully that it [UPU] is a Socio-Cultural organisation but not political association, the USCL took a full page advert in one of the Nigerian leading newspaper, in the name of
