Joe Biden today(Wednesday), became the 46th president of the United States.

Biden, putting his hand on a family Bible, repeated after Chief Justice John Roberts the presidential oath — that he will “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the US. Furthermore, he promised a “new day” for the United States after four years of tumult under Donald Trump who snubbed the inauguration. Meanwhile, Central Washington was protected by some 25,000 National Guard troops tasked with preventing any repeat of any attack, especially with a reported bomb threat.

It would be recalled that Trump supporters violently went on a rampage at the US Capitol to overturn the election results in a January 6, 2021 attack that left five people dead.

Biden, 78, the oldest president in US history, took office amid the Covid-19 Pandemic that has claimed over 400,000 lives in the United States.

Also, former California Senator Kamala Harris, the daughter of Indian and Jamaican immigrants, was sworn in as vice president of the United States, the first woman ever to hold the post. Harris 56, took the oath of office from Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor in a ceremony at the US Capitol.

She is the first Black woman and the first woman of South Asian descent to become US vice president.

Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff were escorted to the inauguration by Eugene Goodman, a Black police officer at the Capitol who lured the mostly white mob away from the Senate chambers in a video that went viral recently.
