And the Kings lost Their Cool

The struggle for land settlement and preventing land grabbers from selling one land to several persons is pitching kings against their subjects and sometimes kings confronting kings.

Last month, two kings were in the news for showing the world that kings after all are human beings. The first to be in the news was the Oba of Ibereko, Lagos who had gone to settle a land matter in his kingdom when his subjects punched him in the process, the king’s royal stick fell. A white cap Chief quickly picked it up while the king tried to defend himself from blows released by his attacker. Though the attackers were later arrested and remanded in prison, insiders say they later got bailed pending the hearing of the case.

At another peace meeting called by the police AIG in the command in Osun state, to settle land matter and make peace, the Oluwo of Iwo land, Oba Dr. Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi lost his royal cool when Agbowu of Ogbaagbaa, Oba Sikiru stretched his staff of office at the Oluwo of Iwo land and interrupted him while speaking.

According to the Oluwo of Iwo land, “Agbowu of Ogbaagbaa interrupted me while speaking, calling me unprintable names, pointing his staff of office at Oluwo and attempted to stick the staff of office to my eyes” then the Oluwo of Iwo land burst out- how could a constable openly insult a commissioner of police and make attempt to beat the CP? Can any monarch try such with Ooni, Alaafin? The Oluwo of Iwo land asked rhetorically?

Lamenting further, the Oluwo of Iwo
