Urhobo Youth Commends Aviation Minister, Keyamo Over Moves to Rename Osubi Airport

The Urhobo Youth Leaders’ Association (UYLA) has commended the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Chief Festus Keyamo, SAN, for his initiative to correct the identity of Osubi Airport and align its designation with its actual location in Osubi, Okpe Local Government Area, Delta State. The Federal Government has formally requested the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to review the airport’s existing code, QRW, which is associated with Warri, arguing that it does not adequately reflect the airport’s official name and physical location.
In a statement by the National President, Chief (Amb.) Samuel Onoriode Oghotomo, JP, and the National Secretary, Chief (Dr.) Augustine Ogheneovo Atiti, JP, UYLA described the move as a welcome step towards correcting a long-standing anomaly and properly recognising Osubi’s identity on the global aviation map.
The association commended Minister Keyamo for listening to the concerns of the people and taking concrete steps to ensure that Osubi Airport is appropriately identified internationally. It urged IATA and other relevant authorities to support the initiative and ensure that the airport’s official designation accurately reflects its location and identity.
The Urhobo youth group believes that correcting the airport’s name and code will strengthen the visibility and recognition of Osubi and the wider Urhobo region. The association therefore appreciated Minister Keyamo for what it described as a bold and commendable intervention and called for its speedy designation.
The association also called on Urhobo sons and daughters at home and in the diaspora to unite, close ranks and support credible leaders committed to the collective interests and development of the Urhobo nation. It urged all Urhobo stakeholders to put aside personal differences, embrace unity of purpose and work together to strengthen the political, economic and social advancement of the Urhobo people which is the 5th largest ethic tribe in Nigeria, particularly as the 2027 general elections approach.
