Alumni of Zik Grammar School Pays Condolence Visit to Late Major General Paul Omu’s family

The alumni of Zik Grammar School known as, ZOSA, ( Zik old students association) Sapele, were recently at the home of late Major General Paul Omu, an old student of the school, on a condolence visit to the family.

The team led by the National Vice-President, Chief Capt Anthony Onoharigho, PhD, who stood in for the President, Prof. Hope Eghagha, had in attendance the National Secretary, DCC Austin Ekele Rtd, National Legal Adviser, Barr. Benson Arayi, the Financial Secretary, Pst Augustine Okoro, and other national officers/ members of the National Body.

Mr. Sese Omu, Executive Assistant on Project Monitoring to the Delta State Government and son of the late General, members of the immediate family of late Chief Omu, Community leaders including the President-General of Igbide Community, Venerable Augustine Ovie, his Vice, Hon. Chris Ukulebu and the Anglican Church, represented by Ven.Dr. JE Ekaike received members of the ZOSA team

 

Chief Capt. Dr. Onoharigho who led the ZOSA deligation consoled the Omu family and the Igbide community over the passage of General Omu saying his good works and deeds speak volumes. He informed the gathering of the Association’s plan to play a role in the burial activities as a mark of honour to a departed alumni. Captain Dr Onoharigho who also delivered a letter of condolence to the family described the Omu family as peace loving and says the late Paul Omu came saw and conquered as well as contributed immensely to national cohesion and development.

In response, Mr Sese Omu who expressed appreciation on behalf of the family, noted that the visit gladdens the hearts of family members especially coming from his alumni and to know also that their patriarch was a valuable member of ZOSA. He promised to get in touch with the association as preparation for the burial commences.

The ZOSA team later signed the Condolence Register before their departure. It would be recalled that late Major General Omu joined the army on 10 December 1962, and was a course mate to General Ibrahim Babangida, former Head of State, Sani Bello and Garba Duba at the Nigeria Military Training College. He attended the Mons Officer Cadet School, Aldershot in the United Kingdom and was commissioned on 25 July 1963.

Born in Igbide community in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, Major General Paul Omu was hailed as a patriot, soldier, statesman and community leader who dedicated his life to the service of Nigeria and the advancement of his Isoko heritage. He died at the age of 84.
