Independent Electoral Commission Promises Deltans Credible LG Elections
The Delta State independent electoral commission, DSIEC has promised Deltans free,fare and credible Local Government Elections come March 6th 2021.

The DSIEC Chairman, Hon.Mike Ogbodu Rtd,made this promise at a media seminar organized by the Commission in collaboration with the Delta State chapter of Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ to sensitize Journalists in the State on Electoral reporting with the theme: “Ethical Journalism: An indispensable Asset for effective coverage of local Government Elections” held at Asaba on Tuesday,23rd February, 2021.
In his remark,the chairman NUJ comrade Mike Ikeogwu said the NUJ and its’ members will provide “Maximum Coverage”for the forth-coming Local Governments elections and ensure unbiased Reportage
Earlier in his address,Hon.James Umokoro, DSIEC Commissioner in charge of Public Affairs and Communication noted that the seminar is meant to prepare members of the state NUJ drawn from the private and public sectors of both the print and electronic media and enlighten them on their roles and duties geared towards the realization of unbiased reportage and non-sensational news regarding the conduct and actual outcome of the March 6th 2021 local Government Council elections.
Furthermore, Umokoro noted that the collaboration with the NUJ is deliberate since the Commission’s intention , often times,is to ensure that members of the fourth estate of the realm are on the same page with the commission in projecting the Commission’s activities at various stages of the election. Besides, the Public Affairs and Communication Commissioner stated that DSIEC believes that maintaining ethical standards in any given profession, including the Journalism form the basis of its’ value system.
Furthermore, he said the training is aimed at sustaining good working relationship between the commission and the media especially as it will help media practitioners to appreciate the critical roles of the commission in carrying out its mission of organizing, supervising and conducting free, fair and credible elections”.
Dr.Emmanuel Akpoveta,Head of department,mass communication Delta State Polytechnic Ogwashi-Uku and Dr.Emmamuel Ufuophu-Biri of Mass Communication Department Delta State University Abraka were resource persons at the one day capacity workshop for Journalists.
